Antonov An-32
Captured on short final, the Antonov An-32 is a twin-engine turboprop tactical transport and the workhorse of the Indian Air Force's medium airlift fleet. Its engines are mounted high above the wing, an unusual arrangement that keeps the propellers clear of debris on rough strips and gives the aircraft the power to operate from hot, high-altitude airfields where most transports cannot. The IAF flies it for troop movement, supply drops and casualty evacuation, including to the forward landing grounds of Ladakh and the north-east, and has upgraded much of the fleet to the An-32RE standard with modern avionics.
